India Data Entry: Corporate Social Responsibility

Oct. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- We have been in the data digitization business since the past fifteen years. As part of our CSR we have strived to provide training and employment to people from the economically weaker section of our society. It is a problem for women in India to get trained and work. This has been our focus sector, the women.

In the past years we have trained hundreds of women as data entry (http://edatashop.com/SERVICES/DataEntryServices/DataEntry.aspx) operators. Most of them have gone on to join lucrative jobs in large corporates and even the government organizations. Some of these women had completed just high school and had no formal college education. Without the training at our center they could never have strived for these jobs. Their and their families lives have been transformed!

One woman who responded to our interview calls was physically challenged. She could not hear nor speak! We had her join our center and took this up as a challenge. With no personnel trained in the sign language at our center it was initially difficult to undertake the training. Gradually we started instructing her with written instructions on simpler projects. As she got familiar with the process she was moved to more complex projects. She turned out to be one of our best performers! She worked with us for more than two years. Later she got a job with a government organization paying her about $400 per month (minimum wages is $150/month)!

The other aspect of our CSR has been to mentor non-profits who are start-ups in the data digitization (http://edatashop.com/SERVICES/DataConversionServices/XMLS...) business. This started with us mentoring a startup Digital Divide Data in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The relationship started in 2001 where we helped with the recruitment and training of their key personnel. Starting with ten people Digital Divide Data has grown to about 800 people in three locations in Cambodia and Laos! DDD has won several awards like the prestigious Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship. The project was extensively discussed in Thomas Friedman’s The World is Flat. The association still continues with us helping them with several projects. We have mentored several such startups and are happy to see their progress.
