Boyd gets in from school and maetsya piranhas that emerge from the abyss and rise of the vortex. Jake (Steven R. McQueen) admiring an attractive tourist as Spring Break starts. He reunites with his old crush, Kelly (Jessica Szohr) and meets Derrick Jones (Jerry O'Connell), an eccentric pornography, and Danny (Kelly Brook), one of his actresses. Derrick convinces Jake to show him a good place on the beach for the filming of pornographic movies. That night, Jake's mother, Sheriff Julie Forester (Elisabeth Shue), the search for missing Matthew Boyd with Deputy Fallon (Ving Rhames), who found the boat Boyd. They find his mutilated body and to contemplate closing down the beach. The next morning, a lone cliff diver attacked and consumed by fish looting. Jake bribe his brother and sister, Laura (Brooklyn Proulx) and Zane (Sage Ryan), to stay home alone so he could show Derrick around the beach. After Jake leaves, Lora Zane projects on a fishing trip on a small island spit. They forget to tie the boat down and got stuck in the middle of the lake. Meanwhile, Jake goes to a meeting with Derrick and runs into Kelly, who offers herself on a boat Derrick's, Barracuda. Jake meets Crystal (Riley Steele), another actress Derrick, and the operator Drew (Paul Scheer). Julie takes a team of divers seismologist - Nowak (Adam Scott), Sam (Ricardo Chavira), and Paula (Dina Meyer) - to crack. Novak believes that the split leads to a buried prehistoric lake. Paula and Sam scuba dive to the bottom and new large cave filled with large stalks of the egg. Both were killed before they can escape and warn other discoveries. Nowak and Julie find the corpse of Paula and pull the boat, taking a lone piranha. They take the fish by Henry Goodman (Christopher Lloyd), a marine biologist who works as a pet shop owner. He explains that the piranhas are prehistoric species long considered extinct, to be trapped underground for more than two million years. Julie Novak, and Fallon is trying to evacuate the beach, but their warnings are ignored until the piranhas attack tourists. Novak board jet skis with a gun to help while Fallon ushers people to beach and Julie tries to get the swimmers in a police boat. Floating stage set up in the water is destroyed by the weight of all the panic guests and wet t-shirt contest host (Eli Roth) is killed. Meanwhile, Jake spots Laura and Zane on the island, and Derrick forces to rescue them. Derrick crashes into some rocks, floods below deck. Kelly trapped in the kitchen while Derrick, Crystal, and Drew thrown from the boat. Crystal and Drew are devoured and Danny managed to get partially eaten by Derrick on board. Jake Julie calls for help. Julie Novak and commandeer a boat and take it to the death of Barracuda. Fallon remains behind to deal with piranhas, seizing the engine with the boat, he turns it into pieces and many infested school with him, sacrificing himself, but gives more swimmers the chance to get out of the water. Julie and Jake Novak to reach and attach the rope to their boat. Julie, Danny, Laura, and Zane start crossing the rope, but the piranhas tabs on Danny and the hair pulling her into the water, devouring it. Others to do so safely, and Jake breaks the rope. Mr. Goodman calls Julie on the radio, Julie tells him that they had killed most of the piranhas, but believes that there is more to it. Terrified, Goodman tells her that the cancer in the piranha they received were not mature. As Novak wonders aloud where the parents, stronger Piranha jumps out of the water and attacks him.
