Honda Keeps the Title of Greenest Automaker for another year

Oct. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Barry Sanders Honda shouts, “Hip Hip Hooray for Honda!” For a fifth year, Honda has retained the title of the Greenest Automaker from the Union of Concerned Scientists (USC).

“It was a photo finish, but Honda is still the champ,” said Jim Kliesch, a senior engineer in UCS’s Clean Vehicles Program and the author of the rankings report. “Toyota was poised to take the lead, but stalled in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s fleet saw dramatic efficiency improvements, pushing the company into a title contender spot.”

The Union of Concerned Scientist’s “Automaker Rankings” is based on how each automaker’s fleet of vehicles produce smog pollution and global warming emissions on an average per-mile ratio. USC ranks the top eight automakers against the industry average.

Honda has won the title for five years in a row and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. With its wide range of energy-efficient vehicles and, now, the new Honda CR-Z sport hybrid, Honda seems to be right.

This year, Honda finished with an overall score of 86 with Toyota and Hyundai tied following with scores of 87. It was a close one, but Honda still took home the title.
