Imagine Prep At Surprise's First Ever Cross Country Team Qualifies Runners To State Meet

Imagine Prep at Surprise’s first ever cross country is off to an amazing start and has already qualified members for the state cross country meet.

Oct. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Surprise, Arizona— Imagine Prep at Surprise’s first ever cross country is off to an amazing start and has already qualified members for the state cross country meet.

“This is Imagine Prep’s first cross team and we are off to great start,” stated Coach Cliff Hymel. “The kids are working hard, learning how to run as a team, and setting personal records at every meet.”

On Saturday, October 2nd, the Imagine Prep at Surprise Cross Country team competed in the 8th annual James Madison Prep Patriot Invitational in Tempe. Four boys and three girls participated, including Tyler Prowell, who finished with a team leading time of 17:15 for the 2.2 mile course. Justin Reyna also finished in the top fifteen, with a time of 17:25.  Finishing out for the boys is Joshua Dunnavant and Andrew Chill with times of 19:40 and 23:17, respectively, leading the boys’ team to a fifth place finish. Kayleigh Sanson led the girls to a third place team finish with a 20:31 performance, followed by Shelby Nelson (21:33) and Lourdes Torres (23:38).

On Saturday, September 25th, the girls team earned 2nd place honors at the Gilbert Early College Invitational.  Kayleigh Sanson was the team leader with a time of 18:52 for the 2.05 mile course. Shelby Nelson (19:29), Lourdes Torres (22:12) and Jasmine Malone (28:35) finished for the Lady Storm. Justin Reyna finished with a time of 16:12 leading the boys to a fifth place team finish. Wyatt Entzminger (16:53), Joshua Dunnavant (19:51), and Andrew Chill (27:33) also finished for the Storm.

The teams will participate in the Desert Heights Invitational at Victory Lane Sports Complex in North Phoenix to finish the regular season. Dunnavant, Reyna, Nelson, Sanson, and Torres are now eligible to compete in the CAA State Championship Invitational at Evelyn Hallman Park in Tempe on October 23.

“At Imagine Prep at Surprise we recognize the important lessons athletes learn on the field or court,” said John Buzzard, Principal of Imagine Prep at Surprise. “Our first ever volleyball team won the conference title last year and this year our first ever cross country team has qualified runner to state.  I am impressed with the athleticism and sportsmanship of Imagine Prep’s athletes.
