Oct. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Which Pillow Pet (or toy) do I pick?

This year of 2010, Toys ‘R’ Us has fifty seven (57) popular toys on their ‘Hot Holiday Toy List’.  Included in the ‘hot’ list are such catchy critters known as ‘sing-a-ma-jig’s’.  Also listed in this roll of honor are the fast moving Lalaloopsy Doll, the LEGO Games Minotaurus, Air Hogs R/C Pocket Copter, Fisher-Price Stride to Ride Dinosaur, Razor Ground Force Drifter Go Kart, a variation of an old favorite; Scrabble Flash Game and last but not least our favorite, the Pillow Pet.  For you newbies, a Pillow Pet is simply a stuffed animal transformer.  Yes, Pillow Pals (as I like to call them) are stuffed animals that change into a pillow at the snap of a strap.
Of the fifty seven ‘Hot List’ choices an impressive nine (9) are of the Pillow Pet persuasion.  For those of you that are Pillow Pet aficionados, you may want to take a guess as to which favorites made the cut.  Well, as to not keep you in further suspense, the Pets that made the cut are all of the 18 inch dimension, they are the; Hungry Hippo - Panda – Penguin – Dolphin - Monkey - Magical Unicorn - Buzzy Bee, and last but not least, the Ms. Lady Bug.

Eeny Meeny Miney Pillow Pick

Now the question may arise, which Pet to pick?  Please note that the ideas presented here can apply to pretty much any toy you are trying to match for your child.  Now that we have an idea of what’s hot and what’s not in the Pillow Pet arena let’s move on to some ‘choosing’ ideas.  With these nine ‘most popular’ Pets, and with ‘The Season’ fast approaching, which Pillow Pet best fits my little ‘Pet’? (so to speak).  Okay, so let us take a look at some ideas for making a match made in heaven (or at least made in your living room).

There is an easy diagnosis available to some of you – that is if your ‘Pet’ has a special ‘Pet’ or animal they already adore.  When I was a child, and to this day, a favorite critter of mine has these wonderful attributes, it is; fast, sleek, powerful and intelligent and he even had a first name: “they call him Flipper, Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning …”  I apologize, in advance, if this song ruminates in your head the rest of the day!  At any rate, the point being, if your child has a favorite animal, it would be hard to go wrong with that choice of Pillow Pet as a gift.

However, if your child is non-committal, there are some helpful ways to determine which choice of Pillow Pet is the best fit for your little angel:

•   Favorite color
•   Similarity with a favorite cartoon character
•   Personality

Pillow Pets are Related to Colors, Cartoons & Personalities

Let’s start with the obvious.  If your child does not have a favorite animal then let us move to the favorite color.  This option is pretty obvious and straight forward.  The only potential snafu is shades or variations on the color theme.  Purple, a great kids color, has many shades and intensities.  For example, purple almost absent of redness can be very different from a purple steeped in red.  With this in mind, the more the Pillow Pet matches the purple in the child’s life (color of their room, favorite dress or toy, the better the prospects for a successful match.

Another choice that is fairly straight forward is using a cartoon character as the standard.  An obvious example is those blue cartoon characters from the 80’s, the Smurfs.  In this case, a blue Pillow Pet might be a wise choice.  Another apparent choice is when the gift getter has a cartoon character that is an animal figure that has a matching Pillow Pet.  Case closed, it’s a slam dunk!

Now, if none of the systems work, then personality type might be of help.  Let’s keep this simple.  The two fundamental personality divisions for a child, or any person for that matter, is Introversion contrasted with Extroversion.  For the more reserved child, those Pillow Pets that are more earth toned (browns, grays and dark greens) may work best.  There is two of the Toys R Us nine that fit real well for this style.  Regarding the out-going child, as you may have guessed, the bright multi-colored Pillow Pets probably will have the best level of success.

Hopefully this article has given you some ideas for picking the best Pillow Pet, or any toy, for your little (or big) sweetheart.
