Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- BrainNook has just launched into open beta. This all-new educational virtual world makes practice of fundamental concepts fun for children through games, exploration, competition and social interaction.

BrainNook is a free virtual world that helps kids develop Math and English skills in a safe and fun online playground. In BrainNook, kids can play over a hundred educational games based on Math and English concepts, safely interact and compete with each other, and strengthen fundamental skills.

The games in BrainNook are based on the content standards prescribed by the California State Board of Education for Grades 1-5, ensuring that they are appropriate for elementary school children. Every game can be played either alone, or in head-to-head competition with other kids.

Children take on the role of an alien who has crashlanded on the Earth and is traveling around the planet. As children explore the worlds within BrainNook, they learn about the corresponding region of the Earth through information, questions and artifacts specific to that region. Children start off with access to only a few worlds and the easiest games, and must unlock new worlds and more difficult games by building up their skills.

"We're excited to launch the open beta of BrainNook", said Abhijeet Vijayakar, CEO of Nunook Interactive, the developers of BrainNook. "BrainNook combines the fun and social experience of online virtual worlds with compelling educational value. In our internal testing, we found that spending time on BrainNook did not feel to kids like studying, even though they were playing Math and English games. Parents were happy that their kids were engaged in constructive learning and healthy competition."

For safety, children can communicate with each other only through pre-approved chat phrases. There is no way for children to send freeform text messages to other players. All usernames created as part of the registration process in BrainNook are reviewed by a team of moderators.

The BrainNook beta is available at www.brainnook.com.
