Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Lower Burrell, PA  -- The Top Ten Indoor Cycling Instructor contest was concluded on September 1, 2010 and the entries were reviewed independently by a panel of experts in the field of Indoor Cycling.  Selections were unanimous for the top male & female instructors.  The top male winner is Doug Rusho from Rochester, NY and top female honors went to Jenine Wright from Melrose, MA.  Along with the prestige of the award, both will receive the top prize of a Keiser m3 power bike for their home, free conference registration (paid for by Cycling Fusion), and they will co-teach the big Saturday night ride at the conference.

As Spinning® & Indoor Cycling continue to be popular activities across the globe, there is a new movement to see this group exercise activity transformed into more of a group training activity, with outdoor Cycling principles and training techniques.  A good example of this is Rusho’s video submission where he simulated a Mountain Bike race as the foundation for his Indoor class.  This approach is not new however, as Jennifer Sage, a former Master Instructor for Spinning® has been encouraging riders to bring the outside in for years.

"Something about your Alp Duez ride or other “simulated” outdoor rides”  Jennifer Sage, Co-Founder of ICI/PRO.

The latest Indoor bike designs are also now including power meters as well as a full console of data.  While this may seem commonplace to the average outdoor cyclist, it has been a long time coming indoors.  For the first time since the red knob of resistance was introduced to stationary bikes back in the 80s, true sport specific training has become a real possibility.  Add to this some Virtual Cycling videos on 10 foot screens, and Indoor Cycling begins to look like it is on the brink of a brand new movement.

"In 2007 when I opened our first training center, I was excited about the effect indoor riding had on my outdoor performance, but now I’m beside myself with the possibilities that are unfolding all around us.  The technology and timing seem to have also opened the minds of fitness club owners and directors to finally consider something new in this space.  We are ripe with opportunity to shake off old images, and bridge the great divide between indoor and outdoor cyclists, where both will be blown away with what’s coming.”  Gene Nacey, Founder of Cycling Fusion.
