Group Forms to Protest New Ypsilanti Township Taxes

Residents of Ypsilanti Township have formed a new anti-tax group - TaxedHomeowner.com. The group encourages residents to vote NO on a repeat of the same millage that was defeated last year.  Even with last year's defeat, the Township is trying again.

Township officials are terrorizing residents with letters that incite fear and use scare tactics. The letters indicate that the Township will be less safe without more police services. In fact, the Township has about the same level of crime as last year, admitted Township Supervisor Brenda Stumbo, “even with the reduction in deputies on patrol, there has not been a drastic increase in crime.”

The group seeks to oppose all new taxes in the Township - which has seen a number of people loosing their home to foreclosure.

"This is not the time to raise property taxes," one group member said. "people are loosing their homes - that make a neighborhood unsafe."
