Oyster Reef & Shellfish Restoration, Port Jefferson Harbor

The Coastal Steward is advocating for shellfish restoration on the North Shore.

Oct. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- We got an email from David Johnson, the Coastal Steward, this week. He's been advocating for shellfish restoration on our North Shore.  It's been such a success, that commercial shellfish harvesting has returned. The oysters are being sold locally at a nearby supermarket.  Amazing, how one person with the help of plenty of volunteers, for more than ten years, has made this possible.

To expand the program, he wants to build a one acre oyster reef in Port Jefferson Harbor.  But from what we understand of the program, it's being slowed down by bureaucracy. To our mind, it would help a great deal if you would post a comment in support of him too (below).
