Dutch police academy renovation includes Boon Edam entrance and security access solutions

On the 6th September 2010, Queen Beatrix officially reopened the national police academy in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Housed on a heritage site, the main location of the academy was in need of an extensive renovation to equip it for the future. As part of the renovation project, the police academy contracted Boon Edam to manufacture and install an impressive number of entrance and security access solutions.

Due to the growing number of students and the demands of a modern educational system, the current building had become outdated, necessitating a comprehensive renovation and extension. One of the main problems to be tackled was the main entrance, which could no longer accommodate the number of visitors passing through it every day. As a solution, Boon Edam installed a Circleslide door, which due to its curved construction and curved sliding doors, offers a wider opening and therefore larger throughput than conventional sliding or collapsible doors.

Other areas of the police academy building required a more secure entrance, while allowing for a high throughput of pedestrians. To secure the basement and side entrances, Boon Edam installed Tourlock and Circlelock high security revolving doors and portals ensuring a smooth and secure passage.

Throughout the building, pedestrian security lanes and barriers such as the Speedlane and Winglock prevent unauthorised people entering secured areas of the building. All of the Boon Edam security access products installed in and around the academy interface with the access control system in place to ensure only those authorised can enter, eliminating the need for guards or receptionists to monitor the secured areas.

With the renovation and extension completed, the Police Academy in Apeldoorn is now ready to train a new generation of police officers.
