Edam, Netherlands, September 2nd – Boon Edam Nederland B.V. has secured the order to manufacture and install an impressive number of entrance solutions in the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. The largest university medical centre of Holland is undergoing a drastic rebuild and extension project that will take eight years to complete. During that time the general hospital, children’s hospital, education centre and thorax centre will be renewed.

The order includes 2 Tourniket revolving doors, 9 Tournex high capacity revolving doors, 3 Tourlock high security revolving doors and 2 Circlelock high security portals. Each one of these entrance solutions was specifically adapted to fit the architect’s design wishes, including a revolving door height of 3.5 meters, necessitating a number of technical feats. The revolving doors will have special slim central columns and continuous curved glass walls fitted into the floor, eliminating the need for visible thresholds.

Revolving doors create an optimum solution for any entrance. As the doors are always open for people to pass through yet always closed to the external elements such as the weather and noise outside, they create and maintain the climate within a building, while reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.

Construction at the Erasmus Medical Centre started at the end of 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in 2017. The Boon Edam Revolving Doors will be installed in stages between 2011 and 2014.
