Oct. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Maui is one of the largest islands on Hawaii; it is only smaller than Hawai’i (Big Island), it is the 17th largest island in the United States and is the largest of the four Maui county islands.  The population is over 117,000 with Kahului is the largest town on the island with a population of over 20,000.  Maui is a place where many of Hawaii’s top exports can be found and are sold all over the world these include items such as coffee, macadamia nuts, papaya, tropical flowers, sugar and fresh pineapple.  These are just some of the reasons to go to Maui, where you can sample these exports in the best Hawaii rentals.

Most of the people that visit come from the United States mainland and Canada, in 2005 over 2,000,000 visitors came from them two neighbouring countries while just over 260,000 visitors came from countries all over the world.  Maui generates over $3.5 billion dollars.  This is an island that is highly acclaimed as it has won many awards over the recent years.  For the past fifteen years it has been voted by people as the ‘Best Island In The World’ in the Conde Nast Traveler, which is a highly acclaimed travel magazine, it was also voted as the ‘Best Pacific Island’ This is something that has been voted by the people for the past 19 years.

Maui is a place which is full of beautiful scenery Take Hana Belt Road which is a 60 mile long road which connects Kahului with Hana to the east of Maui.  Throughout the stretch of road is a tropical rainforest and black sanded beaches which is why it is a popular tourist hotspot in Maui.  Here you can find some of the most tranquil waterfalls; Hana Belt Road is also a U.S National Register of Historic Places.

Haleakala National park is another beautiful place that covers over 30,000 acres of land in which 4/5ths of it is a wilderness area.  This park was first created to be part of the Hawaii National Park along with the nearby volcanoes.  But the national park was made into a separate park.  This park does however feature a dormant volcano which hasn’t erupted since 1490.  The park is split into two different sections; the first is the summit which obviously is the volcano area that is Haleakala Crater and the surrounding area.  The other section of the part is the Kipahulu part of the park (to get to this part of the park you have to use the Hana Belt Road.)  This is the part of the park that lies within the lower part of Kipa
hulu valley.  It is this valley that separates the summit with this section
The name Maui comes from a Hawaii legend Hawaiiloa.   It is said that the island is named after a Polynesian navigator who discovered the islands son, it is said Maui before that was called Ihikapalaumaewa.  The island is coined as the Valley of the Isles this is mainly due to the large isthmus that is in between its northern and southern volcanoes and also the various large valleys that can be found in both mountains.
