Follow on Google News | American Cancer Society Provides Funding for 880 Mammograms at Cincinnati-area HospitalsThe American Cancer Society has given funding from its Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk to Cincinnati-area hospitals provide mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women.
By: Peter Osborne, American Cancer Society “The American Cancer Society provides the chance for life-saving early detection by funding these mammograms,” Receiving the funds are: The Jewish Hospital, receiving $50,350, Mercy Hospitals in Anderson, Clermont and Fairfield, receiving $10,440, Tri-Health Hospitals, receiving $5,000, University Hospital, receiving $5,000, The Christ Hospital, receiving $3,050, Fort Hamilton Hospital, receiving $3,050, and West Chester Medical Center, receiving $3,050. The Society recommends that women begin receiving annual mammograms after their 40th birthday. Some women, however, are unable to pay for mammograms because they are uninsured or underinsured. The American Cancer Society then uses funds collected by its volunteers to pay for mammograms for these women. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s family-friendly noncompetitive 5-mile walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. It is the Society’s signature breast cancer event and the largest breast cancer walk of its kind in the nation. This year’s walk is expected to bring up to 12,000 walkers to Yeatman’s Cove in Cincinnati on Oct. 17. In it first 13 years, the Cincinnati event has raised nearly $5 million to save lives from breast cancer. All Making Strides events nationwide have raised more than $400 million since 1993.
