If there’s a magic bullet for the economy, nobody seems to know what it is. We need to be inventive and find alternatives to financial security.

Kathryn Weber may have the answer. This fourth generation Texan, discovered the path to her own economy 21 years ago in Bali. Weber’s story is a little Eat, Pray, Love meets Wall Street.

Weber earns a six figure income as a master feng shui consultant and her business has grown every year since she started. For some, the ancient Chinese practice of feng shui is all about Asian furnishings and tchotchkes. But feng shui has been around 3,000 years and those who practice it swear by it.  In fact, some businesses won’t do without it.

Consider this New York Times article.  A commercial real estate agent in New York City noticed that some of his biggest deals over the past year were dictated by unusual requests such as location, sales price, and closing dates. His clients were basing their business location decisions on feng shui. According to the article, buyers with feng shui sensibilities are on the rise in New York and businesses are adapting to the principles and practicality of feng shui.  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/25/realestate/25feng.html?...

But that’s New York talking. Here’s Weber.
“Every factor should be accounted for because after the tangible (square footage, facilities, number of offices) are accounted for, it could be the intangible – how clients and employees feel, or the way the building is arranged, that could make the difference in whether a business thrives and grows or withers and dies,” Weber said.

In 2002, Weber began her feng shui consulting business with just $60. “It’s true. Sixty bucks and no idea what the hell I was doing. In a month, I had a website set up and a newsletter with 22 names that included everyone in my family, including my pets.”

Today, Weber has more than 13,000 subscribers to her online newsletter, The Red Lotus Letter. http://redlotusletter.com/  She works from her home in Cuero, Texas and is enjoying the benefits of a thriving business in feng shui. Traditional feng shui can be complex but Weber’s common sense approach and witty, laid-back-cowboy-boot style helps put people at ease.

“Actually, the more down to earth and pragmatic you are, the better. But feng shui is big enough for people who enjoy the mystical as well as those who (like me) are more practical-minded.”

What of the color red, and money? The Chinese know about using red. China also happens to have a booming economy. Weber explains, “Red is the color of vitality and life. Businesses need that energetic edge. Red is the color of our blood; without red, there is no life. Using red sparingly around the office, in a logo, in files, or on your website can give that spark of life back to a dormant business. In short, red is a small way to  give your business an energetic edge and get it back in the black.”

Weber uses her business savvy to help clients navigate through the cultural intersection of East and West and understands that if businesses aren’t making it then nobody is. And now she wants to teach others how to begin their own feng shui consulting practice.

In November, Weber will hold a 3-day Master Consultant Certification Course in Austin, Texas. The course will teach others how to begin their own feng shui consulting business using classical Chinese feng shui. This type of feng shui, highly regarded and practiced in Asia, can fetch up to $250 an hour.

Weber has been featured in, Seventeen, First for Women, Faces, Conceive, Martial Arts Professional, and Natural Health magazine. Weber’s newspaper column, Living Space, was nationally syndicated by Tribune Media in early 2010.

Weber’s on-screen practical style attracts a wide-range of viewers. Her wit and charm captivates audiences as they learn about her Western approach to a growing Eastern art. Weber’s story will make a great tie-in to the current state of the economy with regards to real estate and what businesses can do to survive. It will also tie-in well with the heightened interest in Asian culture brought about by the movie and book, Eat, Pray, Love.
