Vision Source Optometry Practice Comes to Henderson
Dr. K.C. McCandless and Dr. Hong Nguyen to open new office on Saturday, October 16
By: Forte Creative Media
Dr. McCandless received his doctor of optometry (O.D.) degree from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in Columbus, while Dr. Nguyen received her O.D. from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton. While both doctors are primary care optometrists who can treat a variety of eye health issues, Dr. Nguyen has a special interest in ocular diseases, with a focus on glaucoma. Dr. McCandless is also the clinical director of refractive services at the Wellish Vision Institute in Las Vegas, where he focuses on pre-operative and post-operative Lasik, Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) and cataract surgery.
“We will be placing a great deal of emphasis on patient education, which increases the number of patients taking preventative measures with respect to their eye health,” says Dr. Nguyen, who interned with a glaucoma specialist at Wellish and currently is working toward her certification in glaucoma. After a year of working under an ophthalmologist co-managing and treating glaucoma patients, Dr. Nguyen will receive her certification and join a very small number of doctors in Nevada who have achieved this credential. “For example, glaucoma is a serious eye disease that can cause blindness if not detected and treated in its early stages. When detected early, glaucoma can be controlled and vision loss can be prevented,” she says. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), glaucoma damages the optic nerve due to internal pressure buildup and is one of the leading causes of blindness in America, especially in older people.
“This is an excellent and very welcome addition to the Vision Source Las Vegas network of optometrists,”
Dr. McCandless, who has practiced in Las Vegas since 2006, attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Zoology with a minor in Business. He is currently an adjunct clinical instructor for the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton.
Dr. Nguyen, who recently moved to Las Vegas from California, received her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Tulane University in New Orleans.
