New expatriate guide helps people moving to Israel

Just Landed's new expatriate guide for Israel provides extensive information for moving to Israel; from visas to practical tips on find an apartment for rent and applying for a job.

Sept. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Israel is one of the top twenty destinations for expatriates worldwide, over 38% of the population are immigrants. The majority of arrivals are Jewish migrants, but employment opportunities in Israel also attract a number of other foreigners.

Religion, history and politics are deeply embedded in Israeli society. “The importance of religious traditions in everyday life can be a surprise for people arriving from more secular countries. For example, many hotels will have a Shabbat lift which automatically goes from floor to floor opening its doors – which means orthodox Jews can observe the prohibition on operating machinery without taking the stairs,” says Simon Lynch, Managing Director of Just Landed.

Expatriates are often worried about fitting into the country and adapting to the culture. According to a Just Landed survey, the most common cause for concern is the language barrier. “Our Israel guide offers advice on how to learn Hebrew,” adds Simon Lynch. “In reality, especially in business, Israelis usually speak very good English, so you don't need to speak any Hebrew to move to Israel.  The practical information in our guide should help you manage your first steps in Israel without any of Hebrew.” Besides Hebrew, two-fifths of the population in Israel speak Arabic or Russian.

Despite concerns about language and security, Israel remains highly attractive for foreigners. Israel is a leading country in research and technology, employing the highest number of scientists per capita in the world and the home to many internationally successful startups. Reflecting the high demand for foreign workers, Just Landed also runs a jobs portal for multilingual jobs in Israel.
