Spanish nationwide strike on Wednesday 29th September

Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- A general strike by Spanish transport workers will take place in Spain between 00:00 and 23:59 on the 29th September 2010.  Although there is expected to be disruption to railway stations and ferry ports, it is the airports that the Spanish government directs its greatest concern.

The Spanish government has been in talks with the Unions to ensure a minimum percentage of flights are allowed to run and thus travel does not come to a complete standstill.  Subject to confirmation this percentage includes:

•   20% EU flights and 40% international
•   10% internal flights
•   50% of all flights from mainland Spain to the Balearic and Canary Islands

Although this does not look as bad as first feared when the strike was announced, any experienced traveller understand that it only takes one delayed or cancelled flight to throw a spanner into the works.  Other EU countries will have to pick up extra flights and there will be an increased level of traffic on the roads.

If one has no other choice but to fly on Wednesday, make sure to check in online and if possible only travel with carry-on luggage.
