Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- This world jazz concert Pt 1 Journey to Africa will feature the African influence found in the music of Secret Seven, and will feature special guest Ibrahim Aminou (NIGER) on African percussion, guitar and vocals. Future performances will highlight other facets of Secret Seven's approach to performance. Secret Seven will present evenings of Indian influenced compositions at Kerrytown at a date to be announced.

Ibrahim Aminou hails from Niger, West Africa, and has traveled the world extensively, to Benin, Togo, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Algeria, France, the U.S. and Switzerland. As a child, he joined the "Goumbe Drum Ensemble" of Niger (performing ritual songs, school workshops, hypnotic dances and masterful drumming.) Ibrahim became the director of his group, leading and organizing many concerts throughout Niger. At the Centre De Formation Et De Promotion Musicale of Niger, Ibrahim received his formal music education. He studied Ethnology, Musicology, and traditional music education and received the "Certificat D'aptitude D'enseignement Educationel Artistique Africaine." Ibrahim currently lives in Ann Arbor, MI where he performs live music and teaches drum workshops.

Dave Sharp’s Secret Seven is “World Jazz for the Jazz World”. It transcends musical, national, and ethnic boundaries by re-interpreting, not fusing, influences from Africa, Asia, the Latin world, Blue Note Jazz, and that other planet, New Orleans. Secret Seven features Dave Sharp on electric & double bass, leading a steady groove and laying the foundation for the band’s irresistible melodies. Native Detroiter Sharp became devoted to Jazz at the University of Michigan and refined his chops under the tutelage of renowned bassist Herbie Lewis (McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderly, Les McCann) in San Francisco, and virtuoso bassist, composer and bandleader Marion Hayden (Straight Ahead) in Detroit. As bassist and composer for the modern jazz ensemble Spheres of Influence, and touring bassist for the seminal rock band The Melvins (Atlantic Records), Sharp has already made a mark on the national scene. Sharp lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he composes, records, teaches and performs.
