The award-winning children’s eco-music group, the Banana Slug String Band will get the kids hoppin’ and dancin’ and learning about the Earth at the New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children (NMAEYC) Conference on Saturday, Oct. 30. The conference takes place in Santa Fe, NM. Concert times are to be announced.

The Banana Slugs are a foursome of lovable musicians and educators from the Santa Cruz, CA, area who have entertained and educated youngsters (ages two to 92) for 25 years. The band uses music to teach about Natural Sciences and caring for this green Earth. The lively shows include music, theater, puppetry and audience participation. Slug songs range from folk to rap, bluegrass to rock and feature vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, harmonica and percussion.

Biggest hits include “Dirt Made My Lunch” on the Singing in Our Garden CD and “Water Cycle Boogie” on the Slugs at Sea album.

The band’s musicianship is as strong as is its message. The band has performed at hundreds of venues across the U.S. including the Museum of Natural History in New York City and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Their many awards include AFIM’s (Association for Independent Music) Indie Award for Best Children’s Recording and a NAPPA (National Parenting Publications Awards) Gold Award.

“This outstanding album features catchy tunes that teach youngsters about the importance
of a healthy environment ,” said a starred review of the Slugs’ latest CD in School Library Journal.
