Fiat 500 Debut in North America

Sept. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Recently the Fiat brand released photos and details about the Fiat 500, the tiny hatchback due to be released in North America later this year.

“I think Fiat’s chances of success (in the U.S. market) are extremely high,” Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry for Truecar, told Newsday.

The 500 will debut in three different trim levels: Sport, Pop and the Lounge all powered by Fiat’s 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The North American version of the 500, “is both agile and good-looking, as we all know, good things come in small packages,” Automotorblog.com said. The Fiat 500 Sport “was designed for the practical American who wants to have both performance and style in his or her life,” the website said.

Differences in this coming year’s model debuting the in North America include:  a sports suspension, redesigned fascias both to the front and to the rear, a larger grille, all of these adding to a sportier look. Speaking of a sportier look the Fiat 500 Sport will feature unique 16-inch wheels wrapped around red painted brake calipers, a sunroof and the wheels will be accented by the sport side skirting.

“The Cinquecento offers unique adaptations for the North American market and is designed for individuals who demand that style and fashion can coexist with practicality and functionality,” a report from MLive.com said.

Fiat has been a huge success and the Chrysler Group LLC have received a number of proposals from dealers seeking to sell Fiat vehicles.

“The response from our dealers has exceeded our expectations,” Ralph Kisiel, a spokesman for Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler, said in an e-mail. “We now will begin reviewing the proposals and look forward to naming out Fiat dealers in the next few weeks.

The production for the Fiat 500 or Cinquecento will begin in December in Mexico, and the Chrysler Group LLC plan for the tiny Fiat hatchback to be in 165 U.S. stores by February 2011.
