Sept. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Wood Green Animal Shelters will host its’ first ever canine wedding to celebrate the love and friendship between greyhounds Pete and Zoe.
The pair, who are both five-years-old, first met as strays in Ireland. They were brought to Wood Green’s Godmanchester Shelter in June where they reside in a kennel together.
Every day the pair are seen cuddling up on their bed together, eating out of the same food bowl and going for walks together.
As their love for each other is so strong, staff working in the charity’s dog rehoming kennels are keen to ensure they are rehomed together.
It was therefore decided to hold a wedding ceremony for the canine companions and officially seal their love.
The wedding has been organised by dog rehomers Nicola Tyler and Donna Furnie who have made Zoe a white cotton wedding dress and Pete a gold sparkly bow tie for the occasion.
The wedding will take place at the pavilion at Wood Green on Thursday (September 23) and guests will include staff, members of the public, supporters and a number of the happy couples canine friends.
The ceremony will be held by pretend vicar Gail Lees from Wood Green's cat section who has written special vows for the duo.
After the ceremony the pair will go back to their marital home - the kennel - to share a three tier liver cake and toast the occasion with a bowl of fresh water.
They will then snuggle up on their bed together to relax and reflect on their busy day.
Dog rehomer Nicola Tyler said: "Zoe and Pete came to us separately and have fallen in love during their time at Wood Green. They enjoy each others company so much that we have decided to home them together as a pair and hold a wedding ceremony to seal their union. We also hope it will create some interest and help to find them the home they desperately need and want, with some warm soft cosy duvets to chill on and and a couple of strolls a day with a new family.
"Zoe and Pete are lovely dogs who can live with children over the age of 10. They cannot live with cats and can be left for short periods in their new home. They love being with people and having a fuss. They are happy, friendly dogs and will make lovely pets."
If you would like to rehome Pete and Zoe, call Wood Green on 0844 248 8181 or visit them at the Godmanchester Shelter.

Copy of the vows

We are gathered here today with all our Wood Green friends to celebrate the joining together of Pete and Zoe, two wonderful greyhounds who are temporarily living at the Shelter before hopefully moving on to a new family very soon.

Pete and Zoe met in Ireland and for Pete it was love at first sight. With Zoe it took a little longer but now they are a devoted couple who enjoy each others company and will play together happily. They both love their toys but while Zoe will chase them around, Pete likes to try and impress her by carrying the toys around and then eating them.

As they are both a little shy they have asked that I read the vows for them so here goes

I take you to be my lawfully wedded dog companion.
Before these witnesses I vow to love you and share my dog biscuits with you, as long as we both shall live.
I take you, to share squeaky toys and roll in the grass with.
I will turn to you when I need a lick on my face or a wagging tail to cheer me up.
I choose you as the dog with whom I will spend my life.

I would like to close with a traditional Irish Blessing - May the road rise to meet you.May the wind be always at your back. May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home And may the hand of a friend always be near.

So, it is with great pleasure that I now pronounce you doggy husband and wife – Pete, you may kiss your bride!!!
