By: Streets of Franklin StreetFest 2010 will get underway at 6:30 PM on Friday, September 15, 2010 when Mayor Joe Collins, surrounded by the merchants, cuts a ribbon spanning Main Street. The ribbon cutting will be followed by an evening and full day Saturday of festivities. Mayor Collins isn't surprised by Main Street's success, "People visit Franklin's downtown to experience the nostalgia of shopping with people who are or could be their neighbors. They are never disappointed with the variety of merchandise or the friendly atmosphere." Shops will have food and beverages for their guests, along with bargains to thank their customers for shopping locally. Entertainment will add to the festivities. Downtown Franklin's first drum circle will take place on Main Street. Drummers are invited to join in. The week prior to the event, ribbons will be handed out by local merchants and at the Chamber of Commerce. Someone wearing one of these ribbons on Friday night will be randomly selected by the StreetFest Patrol to win a basket of gifts donated by the merchants. Atlanta resident and part-time Franklin resident Pam Pringle visits the downtown shops each time she's in Franklin to check out the ever changing merchandise, "There are always treasures to be found in these smaller local shops. The retailers are able to stock what they know their customers want, not what is shipped to stores nationwide."
