Cub Scout Pack 499 Has a Successful and Fun Cleanup Day at Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa

Sept. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Cub Scout Pack 499 spent Saturday, September 18th, getting to know its new scouts and parents at a Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa Cleanup Day.  Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa (which is Seminole for land by the peaceful water) is located in Fort Pierce and is approximately 20 acres of FUN!  Almost 50 years ago, this land was set aside for the use of Scouts and Youth Organizations of St. Lucie County and others counties statewide.

The Pack met up at their new site, site M, to mow and clear it for the fall camping season.  Scouts had fun using rakes, wheel barrels, and lawn mowers to make way for new grass seed and pull moss out of the trees.  With a new fire circle built by the Pack leaders, the site was ready to go.  Once finished, the scouts moved on to the amphitheatre.  They cleaned the fire pit and mowed the area to clear the way for fun and canoeing at a nearby launch.  To check out photos of the event, go to http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=37447&id=1830364573&l=8d54473cc6.

All in all, it was a great day for scouts who met the following Monday to discuss upcoming Popcorn Sales to raise funds.  The Pack desperately needs a new trailer to haul equipment to its campouts and events as the Pack is not only the oldest but one of the largest packs in Port St. Lucie.  Keep a lookout for scouts in the upcoming weeks or visit a popcorn booth.  Pack 499 will be selling popcorn on the first three Saturdays in October (October 2nd, 9th, and 16th).  You can find them on those dates at the Publix at 5473 NW Saint James Drive from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and at Blockbuster Video at 1310 SW St. Lucie West Boulevard from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Come out and show your support for a great organization and a great Pack.
