Sept. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- SANTA BARBARA, CA –California-based photographer Lauren Berley heads across the Atlantic with her exhibition “Legacy of Pride” in just a few short weeks, opening to a London audience on October 30th.  Kicking off the touring exhibition in the UK, “Legacy of Pride” brings an intimate look into a culture whose roots run deep, founded on tradition, family values and integrity. In honor of her parents’ respective cancers, Lauren Berley has designated 25% of the tour’s proceeds to benefit Tough Enough to Wear Pink, a dynamic breast-cancer awareness organization within the rodeo community, and The Tug McGraw Foundation for brain cancer, chaired by Tim McGraw.  The October opening honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and marks the official launch of “Legacy of Pride’s” migration.

Images from Carbondale, Colorado’s “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Rodeo, Santa Barbara’s Fiesta Parade and Stock Show, Prescott, Arizona’s “World’s Oldest Rodeo,” and not-so-public family ranch life will be displayed in large-format museum-quality prints suspended from actual roper’s lariats in London’s posh Museum district.  Located across the street from the Victoria and Albert Museum, Orsini Café’s Upstairs gallery is a warm and welcoming environment, founded on Italy’s Old World charm, and a perfect companion to “Legacy of Pride’s” message of family values, multi-generational reverence, and self-reliance.  A cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception from 6pm to 10pm on October 30th welcomes the artist and invites Londoners to meet and greet an artist on a mission to share and represent the voice of America’s West, while honoring her own lineage by spreading cancer awareness and support.  Orsini is located at 8A Thurloe Place, London SW7 2RX (South Kensington or Knightsbridge Tube Station.) Tel. 020 7581 5553.

“Legacy of Pride" is about interpersonal relationships within a very specific American sub-culture.  Those relationships are between man and family, man and the elements, man and beast, and man and himself,” says Lauren Berley.  “I have chosen images that represent the emotion and commitment level of a lifestyle that is often portrayed in a topical or archetypical manner.  The traditions of the West are deeply-rooted, like an ancient oak.  Free from technology and evolution, there lies a legacy of values, integrity, and honoring one’s heritage.”

ABOUT LAUREN BERLEY
http://www.laurenberley.com

Lauren Berley was transplanted from Albany, NY to Los Angeles at seven, but her love of New York stayed firm. Ambitious and energetic, Lauren quickly built a career in fashion and portraiture with the drive of a freight train at a very young age, shooting six days per week at 23 years of age. Her body of work includes celebrity portraits, magazine editorials, advertisements, catalogues, and calendars. Her extensive personal work ranges from the grit of the underground urban environment to the pristine heights of Alpine paradise, and all shades in between.
Inspired by her experiences as Los Angeles photographer, Lauren wrote and directed a short film “Shoot My Head." This  comedy mockumentary examines a typical day in the life of a Hollywood headshot photographer, and her trials with the a Crayola box of personae she encounters.  “Shoot My Head” caught the attention of film industry peers and belly-laughing festival audiences.

The September 11th attacks on New York City impacted Lauren's life profoundly, and she sprung off to New York alone to find a volunteering endeavor, stumbling upon Nino's Restaurant 9/11.   This restaurant was a haven for the uniformed rescue and relief personnel only serving free meals 24-hours per day throughout the entire cleanup process. 5,000  smiles daily on the stoic faces of tireless workers covered in ash and horror piqued Lauren's interest and she committed to creating a PSA for the Fund,  seeking crew and donated production goods and services. The success of the PSA
earned network airtime and Lauren served as in-house media for the Fund, Calling NYC home for the next eight years. The grassroots relief effort exemplified the spirit of a unified NYC and caught the interest of the media and several institutions and museums, with which Lauren worked closely in the area of preservation. The New York Historical Society, New York State Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and several others have included Lauren's material in their permanent collections.
Says Lauren Berley: “The old way of compartmentalizing people isn't working. It is a different world now than the one we once knew, on all levels. We have to look ,ore deeply to find all that is pure and good."
Yearning for a fresh perspective, Lauren has returned West, settling in California's Santa Ynez Valley, where she is inspired by the multi-faceted and cultural landscape of life in Wine Country.  Her recent project, “Legacy of Pride,” is a photographic journey through the deeply-rooted traditions of the American West, which opens for exhibition in London on October 30th.

Deeply moved by her father’s recent death from a brain tumor, and her mother’s breast cancer survival, Lauren has designated 25% of all proceeds to “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” and The Tug McGraw Foundation.

TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK
http://www.toughenoughtowearpink.com

Tough Enough to Wear Pink was created by entrepreneur and breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley to bring the sport of professional rodeo and the western community together to rally against breast cancer.  Since its inception in 2004, TETWP has empowered rodeos and western events in the U.S. and Canada to focus attention on the need for a cure.  To date, the campaign has raised $5 million dollars for breast cancer charities, much of which stays right in the community.  The grassroots movement has inspired other sports communities to mount their own TETWP campaigns, spreading a message of hope and support that reaches beyond the rodeo arena to competitors, families and fans across America.

THE TUG McGRAW FOUNDATION
http://www.tugmcgraw.org

The Tug McGraw Foundation was established prior to his death in 2004 to enhance the quality of life of children and adults with brain tumors. In 2009, TMF expanded its programs to include Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The Tug McGraw Foundation collaborates and partners with other organizations so that they can accelerate new treatments and cures to improve quality of life in areas of physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual impact of those debilitating conditions.

The Foundation develops programs and raises funds for the following:
•      The Pathway Home Program at the California Transition Center for Care of Combat Veterans
•      Tug McGraw Foundation's Brain Complex and Brain Food Garden in Yountville, CA
•      Team McGraw, TMF's national endurance sports training program
