Battle Of The Bands 2010 – The Jump Off!

Sept. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Thom Barry a renounced Hollywood producer and actor of Cold Case and West Wing fame and Rick Ballard President of Acetate music recording company a producer of Prima Donna, a Foo Fighters spin-off band currently supporting Green Day concerts and others will be judging the Battle of the Bands 2010 at Salt Lake Park on October 1, 2010 starting at 6pm and ending at 8:30pm.

The Battle of the Bands 2010 is a celebration of accomplishments by Woodcraft Ranger’s Nvision after school program graduates who live in underserved Los Angeles communities. Performing live for an audience builds confidence for the youths. Admission is free. The battle will include electric performances of original and cover rock songs by at risk Los Angeles middle scholars from Carver, LA Academy and Gage. The grand prize is a jam session with Scott Shriner of the Weezer band. “We are so excited to present our first rock band concerts and play off –every band wins just for getting to this point!” said Cathy Mostovoy CEO of Woodcraft Rangers.

For most inner city kids, having a strong sense of self-belief can literally be a matter of college or penitentiary. Far too many at risk youths are on their own and at risk after school, either trapped in their homes or roaming the streets making them vulnerable targets. The Battle of the Band participants come from communities that have high rates of juvenile arrests, gang activity and births to teens. The free Woodcraft Rangers Nvision After School program teaches youths to be confident and self-reliant.

ABOUT THE Nvision AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PROGRAM
Woodcraft’s year-round Nvision program meets on school campuses five days a week, immediately after dismissal until 6:00 p.m.  The program begins with a 45-minute homework clinic, during which time students receive guidance to complete assignments and learn good study habits.  Following fitness activities and a nutritious snack, participant’s transition to special interest clubs of their choice.

Woodcraft’s Nvision Afterschool Program serves young people (ages 6–18) who face a myriad of challenges every day in neighborhoods plagued by poverty, crime, and low education.
