Platinum Plus Records Celebrates 40 years in Nashville in 2011

If you are looking for the most commercial well rounded roster of artists with distribution in Nashville, you just keep finding them on Platinum Plus Records.  Expanded once they landed a distribution deal with The Orchard in New York, the label is now Platinum Plus International. They have a sister label in Hollywood, a distributor in New York and brick and mortar store distribution through the big four distributors in the music business

The prestigious Platinum Plus label in Nashville, has had more “real” hits than any other true “indie” in Music City.  They have a fresh new 2010 roster that is sweeping awards shows like their roster did in 1994.   Their “ Win in 2-10” slogan has propelled them to superstar status at radio this year with stations playing their artist roster over other labels that boast “ghost adds” and a lot more money.  The award winning Platinum Plus label is just having a renewal of major radio hits after doing it in Nashville for a very long time.  In 2011 the label which was started in Nashville in 1971 will celebrate 40 years of staying the course this next year.

The edgy on the curve “indie” label is just bringing the hits to radio.  Their roster of artists are hungry and have the energy that it takes to carve out a place on the music landscape in a town that has seen its share of failures.  “Any old fish can float downstream, but it takes a live fish to swim upstream against the current.”  "That’s what we’re doing in Nashville," says 60 year old grizzled veteran hitmaker Robert Metzgar who produces all the label product.  "This guy is as tough as they come having survived open heart surgery, cancer surgery and a battle of wills in a business famous for being the snakiest business in the world." says a programmer for the Midnight Trucking Radio Network.

Indie World has put out their rich past catalog of 350 #1 indie hits from the 80’s, 90’s and the early new Millennium   But its their current roster that is just beating down everything else in sight out there.  They are having success that defies even the majors in Nashville.   They do it with their artists and the right songs.  “We don’t bribe radio to play our artists” Metzgar proudly says.  Our songs and artists get “hot phones” at radio and make the stations money because people want to listen to them.  Here’s the Billboard overview.

Native American superstar Victoria Blackie

Let’s examine their current roster of artists, starting with Native American artist Victoria Blackie.  Victoria has achieved superstar status on the Native American circuit of casinos, with her 4 big video hits, and just keeps racking up awards everywhere.  The Chicago Tribune called her ”‘the first and only real country artist” to come out of Nashville in years.  She’s no pop bottle tryng to look like a beer bottle.  Victoria’s the real deal in country music.  Victoria is up for 8 Nammy Awards (Native American Music Awards) for 2010, swept the ISMU Awards in September, and has had 4 big hit records off her album "Wanted Man" produced by Legends Hall Of Fame producer Robert Metzgar.  Clint Black was the last country artist to single 5 songs off one album.  Victoria has already had 4 hits off her current album.

Country Rock star Christy Angeletti

Christy Angelettii, the label’s country rock star has a single that is currently at #103 in Billboard, and has already reached #1 in the Good Noise charts on MySpace.  She has a Top 40 single in the roots chart.  Christy has an album to die for and is just breaking on the national scene in the music business.  The Columbus, Ohio star just blows radio stations away with her music.

Top-40 Country star Lacee Turner

18 year old Lacee Turner, their Top 40 country artist from Dallas, Texas had a # 1 single in the Good Noise pop charts with "When I’m With You", a nationally charted country record “Route 99” in the country charts, and Lacee has become a favorite of Music City establishment clubs bringing in standing room only crowds at Tootsie’s, The Nashville Palace,  John A’s and other venues across the city.  She greeted 165,000 music fans at this year’s Fan Fest on a Billboard at the airport welcoming fans to Fan Fair and Bonnaroo.  She has been invited to perform at the Texas Fair Board showcases for 2011 in Austin, Texas.

Traditional Country artists Jeff Leonard,  Barry Brown & Jessica Hawthorn

Jeff Leonard and his band have recently been nominated for the "Country Album Of The Year"  in the L A Music Awards, an awards show that has featured some of the label’s finest talent in past years including Laura Lynn who won Female Vocalist Of The Year.  Jeff's current single was written by Mark Miller, the lead singer in Sawyer Brown.

Barry Brown’s album and video from the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville has stayed in the video charts for over a year and recently has been featured in the Good Noise online charts at MySpace.  The video shot at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville has gone viral and fans all over the world are requesting Barry’s incredible barn burner single entitled “300 Horses.”

Jessica Hawthorn led the label roster in releasing the "Humanitarian Album of the Year" for autistic children in 2009/2010 and her hit “Texas Hold ‘Em” has been in the Texas Music Charts for two solid years.  Tim Spears, a Platinum Plus artist was voted the "Humanitarian Artist Of The Year" for his charitable work each year at Christmas.

Top 40 Progressive Country artists Kimberly Cash and Tobi Gordon

Kimberly Cash has followed her nationally charted record “Mama’s Kisses”  by touring and appearing at some of the biggest venues in the country.  After her network television appearance, Cash has had multiple hits from her album and is in negotiations for a record deal with a major label in Canada.  Tobi Gordon's new album "Let's Sing America" is hitting radio stations now and her single release "Grandma's Love Recipe" will be out in video on CMT and GAC in October.

Bluegrass artists Smokey River Boys dominate the landscape

The Smokey River Boys have just put out their seventh album and have a monster hit  “All Pure Country” off their # 1 Greatest Hits package.  They join Tobi Gordon and  Christy Angeletti with current songs in the Billboard Top 200 radio releases.  Since January of 2010, the label can claim 12 songs in the Billboard charts and the most successful radio promotions of any label in 2010.  See

"If I was an artist looking for a label that could propel my career into superstar status, I would be sitting in the offices of Platinum Plus Records, talking to the A & R department about signing me to a record deal.  They have obviously found out what works at radio, what works at television stations, and how to have the hits an artist needs to make them successful, " says one ABC television programmer in New York.
