Follow on Google News | SaaS Provider Improves Data Protection with RSA IntegrationBased on recent findings on the prevention of security breaches, SaaShr.com has embedded software authentication technology into its online applications for use internally and now announces its availability across its user base.
By: Josh Davis Using traditional passwords or personal identification numbers (PINs) alone may be a major point of vulnerability for security breaches. According to a recent article from CNN.com by John D. Sutter, researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology suggest using 12-character passwords because it would take 17,000 years to exhaust all the options possible with 95 possible characters. An RSA Token can increase security, as a unique symmetric key is combined with a proven algorithm to generate a new one-time password (OTP) every 60 seconds. Coupled with a traditional password or secret PIN selected by each user, this OTP can now be used to safely and securely log into SaaShr.com’s online applications. With the OTP updating every 60 seconds it is nearly impossible for a cyber criminal to ‘crack’ the unique password before it changes. SaaShr.com’s CEO, Bill Loss explained, “With data security being at the forefront of the service provider community, and after observing an increasing trend in data theft, our technology team identified two-factor authentication as an effective solution to improve data protection. We made a proactive decision to integrate the technology of the security industry leader, RSA, whose solutions are currently being used by more than 30 million end-users worldwide. Our management team is confident that our channel partners will quickly begin embracing this technology and providing it to their clients.” According to research firm Javelin Strategies, in 2009 alone, data theft incidents affected over 220 million records, and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center reported that as of October 2009 cybercriminals had attempted to steal approximately $100 million from U.S. banks using stolen passwords and credentials. “These attacks have been successfully and repeatedly executed against many banks and their customers across the globe in 2009,” said Avivah Litan, an analyst and vice president at Gartner. “However, while bank accounts are the main immediate target, these attack methods will migrate to other sectors and applications that contain sensitive valuable information and data.” To protect sensitive employee and customer-related data and achieve compliance with government regulations such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), The Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA), etc., strong two-factor authentication solutions are increasingly used as an effective way for organization’ About SaaShr.com – SaaShr.com was established in 2002, and has evolved in response to the ever-changing needs of both providers and customers of Payroll and Human Resources services.
