| Young people showcase during the London Peace WeekCranstoun’s Positive Futures in Roehampton is holding a community fun day for young people involved in the project on 25/09 at the Green (Danebury Avenue, Roehampton) . This day will be part of the London Peace Week held 19-26 September this year.
By: Cranstoun The aim of the event is to highlight the work of the project and celebrate young people’s contribution to the community through volunteering and getting involved in positive activities. On the day young people will be given the chance to join in and showcase their involvement with a range of activities including mini football tournaments, face painting and gangs and knife awareness workshops. There will be various support agencies on hand to talk to the young people including the police, ambulance service and fire brigade. The highlight of the day will be an army assault course, which has proved to be a very popular and rewarding experience for the young people involved in the project, and is a result of a strong partnership working between the project and the army to develop positive pathways of engagement for marginalised young people in the area. The impact of the army project has recently attracted the interest of local MP for Roehampton and Economic Adviser to the Treasury, Justine Greening who visited the project on 24th August to talk to some of the young people involved and see the project in action. She also got involved in some of the activities and was impressed by the work being undertaken, commenting the activities as “Fantastic and very enjoyable”. The event will also be attended by members of the community and local partners will be invited to join in with activities and will be given the opportunity to talk to young people about their journeys: of getting back on track and developing skills to contribute to their community in a positive way.
