The Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam Host Domestic Violence Awareness Forum

Islamic educators, social justice advocates and Islamic clerics meet to establish a statewide response to domestic abuse.
 
Sept. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Saturday, October 9 from 10 am-2pm at the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam 560 Fayetteville Rd. SE the Islamic community will host a forum titled Relationship Summit: Focus on Domestic Violence. The organization coordinating the event is the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. a 13 year old domestic violence awareness organization with an outreach office in Stone Mountain, GA. The event  is funded by the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence with some financial assistance from supporters of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc.

This meeting will bring together Islamic educators, Imams/Amirs (religious leaders), business people, medical and legal professionals, youth group leaders, socialogist and social workers in the Islamic community from all over the state to discuss, network and begin to lay the foundation to build a statewide response to domestic abuse in the
Islamic community.  "One of our main goals says Hadayai Majeed Co-founder of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. is to get the leaders (male and female) together to have an open and productive dialogue that leads to action."

Imam Mansoor Sabre Resident Imam of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam will open the event with his personal reflections on the topic based on his daily counseling of victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse.   Professor Shyam Sriram Political Science instructor at Georgia Perimeter College Clarkston Campus and facilitator of Muslim Men Against Domestic Violence will lead a breakout session with the religious leaders (Imams/Amirs) and all other men who attend the event. Amita Rao of Raksha, Inc. (South Asian domestic abuse awareness organization) and Hadayai Majeed Co-founder of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. will speak with women who attend the event about collaboration, advocacy and organization building.

The event is free and open to all Islamic leaders in the state of Georgia. To RSVP call the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam (404) 378-1600 between the hours of 10 am-4 pm Monday-Friday.
