Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes Benefits From Annual Statewide Food Drive

More than 30,000 pounds of food is expected to be raised for Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes as part of Michigan Harvest Gathering's 20th anniversary celebration.

Sept. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes is set to raise food and funds in honor of the 20th Anniversary celebration of Michigan Harvest Gathering.

This statewide event, which is sponsored by the Food Bank Council of Michigan, kicks off in Lansing on Thursday, September 16.  The 2010 goal is to raise $800,000 and 300,000 pounds of food between now and Nov. 10. Local partners like Bronson Methodist Hospital, Charter Communications, the State of Michigan, and Borgess Health are participating again, with their donations directly benefitting Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes.

“Associates throughout Borgess Health are enthusiastic to contribute to the Michigan Harvest Gathering again this year,” said Sharon Ritchie, executive secretary at Borgess. “Associates want to make a difference in the lives of our community members. By contributing, they not only provide food, but hope; people know that others care about them.”

In 2009, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes received over 30,000 pounds of food from local entities during Michigan Harvest Gathering.  Participants are hopeful last year’s number will be surpassed in order to fully stock Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes’ 26 choice pantries.
