Costa Teguise a Place fit for a King

Sept. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Costa Teguise is located on the south eastern side of Lanzarote, and is the third largest and newest tourist resort on the island. Built entirely on former lava fields and salt plains, the development of this resorts only started near the end of the 1970's with the construction of the five-star hotel Gran Melia Salinas.

You would think that it would be a fairly noisy and busy place, but it isn't. As a matter of fact its quite the opposite and has been criticised at times of lacking character because of its 'built from scratch resort' feel to it, however that is far from it.

There is a water park that in comparison isn't as grand as the gigantic aqua parks at the other Spanish islands at the Gran Canaria and Tenerife, but that makes it more friendly. There is a great choice of water slides and rides that are catered for all of the family. Also Costa Teguise is the only place on the whole island where you can find a golf course, so if you're craving to get in a swing of things then this is the only place to be - although there are more courses under construction. The golf course was designed by British landscape architect John Harris and was built in 1978 and it lies at the foot of an volcano and has breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. This is a fantastic course because it is always in excellent condition all year round.

The beaches on Costa Teguise are brilliant, here you will be able to engage in many popular water sports such as wind surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving. The Playa de las Cucharas beach is highly recommended, especially for its great panoramic views. It is recommended to do your wind surfing here as there are windsurfing schools scattered all over this beach here. The other beach, the Playa Bastian, is also popular and is seen as the one more catered to families.

The shopping in Costa Teguise is aimed for visitors - there is no shortage of places that cater for need to bring something back. The La Cucharas Shopping Complex is a key area for this, plus it also features a few electrical duty-free stores. You could possibly venture out to areas outside of Costa Teguise, the Teguise Sunday market is fantastic in finding many little trinkets selling various locally produced goods from pottery to tablecloths as well as the touristy stuff.

There's a good range of restaurants in Costa Teguise that will be alluring to your stomach and wallet. If you feel like dining out, then go to Coffee and Cream Bistro Bar, Vesubio Restaurant, Restaurant Montmatre or El Bocadito. If you don't feel like the local cuisine then there are plenty of establishments that focus on other types such as Italian, Indian, Thai and Chinese.

There's also a wealth of places to stay here with low rise apartments, to some of the best Lazarote villas you can find. In fact the house of King Juan Carlos I of Spain is here so it backs up how good the area has become. The house was presented by the late King Hussein of Jordan. The large resort does present itself as a fairly modern modern place and has attracted other distinguished clientèle, not only the King.
