Sept. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- PHOENIX – Sept. 9, 2010 – Vantage Mobility International (VMI), a leader in the manufacture and distribution of wheelchair accessible full-size and minivan conversions, displayed a 2010 Honda Odyssey with VMI’s Northstar conversion and a full-size Tuscany Echelon conversion van equipped with the revolutionary VMI/Ricon Slide-Away Platform Lift at the Houston Abilities Expo.  VMI was the only vendor to display a full-size van at the Expo, which took place inside the Houston Reliant Center from Friday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 29.

The Abilities Expo is targeted for people of all ages with disabilities, as well as their families, caregivers and healthcare professionals.  Houston Reliant Center was filled with three days of hands-on and informational workshops, exhibitors, family-friendly activities, and products and services from mobility companies across the country.

“We create innovative, state-of-the-art conversions and lifts to allow our customers to lead independent lifestyles,” said Doug Eaton, president of VMI.  “The Expo is the perfect environment for us to connect with consumers and discover how we can help them overcome their challenges.  We apply the lessons learned from these events to our products and improve them with the utmost quality and efficiency.”

During the exhibit, VMI displayed a 2010 Honda Odyssey conversion because of its award-winning reputation in the automotive market.  The conversion features a spacious 55 inch opening height and an 89.5 inch overall floor length that allows even large power chairs easy maneuverability.  The Slide-Away platform lift was also available on the Tuscany full-size van during the three days at the exhibit.  This lift allows full functionality of the front passenger seat and provides greater access for able-bodied passengers.

Besides the attention-grabbing vehicles, VMI team members from corporate spoke with attendees, while mobility consultants from Adaptive Driving Access in Houston talked with potential customers about the conversion vans and lifts.  The VMI booth gave prizes away daily, including an Apple iTouch, iPad and iPod.

“In the past, VMI sent representatives to assist dealers with demonstrations of our products at their booths,” added Monique McGivney, marketing manager at VMI.  “This year, we created a booth that was interactive, fun and provided popular products, including the 2010 Honda Odyssey that potential or current customers could experience firsthand.  Through our long-standing relationship with Honda, we’ve been able to provide Odysseys with our quality, innovative Northstar conversion that attendees were able to review during the exhibit.”

The Abilities Expo is scheduled throughout the year at various locations across the U.S.  From adaptive sports, crafts and dance, to technology showcases, assistance dog demos and more, the Expo provides a weekend of activities and compelling seminars that touch on subjects affecting the disabled community every day.  It is also an event for consumers to test out new products and services from all aspects of the industry, including automobile and van conversions, assistive technologies, clothing and apparel, durable medical equipment and much more.
