Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Shelley Staton has lived in the Kansas City area her entire life, from Liberty to Carrollton, MO and Olathe to Leawood on the KS side.  She is a graduate of Notre Dame De Sion and Rockhurst University where she studied the French and Spanish languages and communication, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Communication / Marketing.  Shelley then began her distinguished position at the Business Journal as the Distinctive Homes representative and ultimately creating her own job as the Classified Advertising Manager.  Account Executive of the Year and the ACBJ Chairman’s Club, were just a couple of the prominent awards she earned during her tenure there.

Shelley now resides in Overland Park and is the proud wife to Merrill and mother to sons Hamilton, age 7 and Lyman, age 5.  Merrill is a stay at home dad, with whom she helps manage the boys’ schedule of school at Santa Fe Trail, football with FCCJC and mutton busting in rodeos at Rawhide Arena in Greeley KS.   Shelley's family also deals with such personal challenges as Cystic Fibrosis and Charcot Marie Tooth Disease.  To support one of these worthwhile causes, Shelley co-founded a non-profit organization called Caring Families for Cystic Fibrosis to raise money for local families affected by CF, raising over $20K in its first year.

Shelley also founded the Olathe West chapter of Mom's Club and is now avidly involved with the Greater Johnson County chapter of Mothers and More and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  She assists both of these organizations in fundraising, volunteering and public awareness, as much as time allows.

In 2006, she started Young Spanish, another organization that was truly the first of its kind, by transforming school room into a fun and relaxed class setting that is designed to keep children interested while stimulating their learning experience.  We all knew that children can learn in a daycare and preschool setting, but coffee houses, custard and pastry shops?  It is true!  Shelley combined her innovation, Two-Way Bilingual Immersion program and Boca Beth products with outside partners to form what was found to be the perfect environment for learning.  Now parents could get a 30 minute break to have coffee or a snack and their child gets an education too!  

To make room on her plate for her true passion, Shelley sold Young Spanish to a local couple that could take it to the next level.  She then decided to use her years of Real Estate experience to become a licensed Realtor with her dad, Doug Lyman of Leawood KS, in 2008.  

Doug has also lived in the Kansas City area his entire life, starting out just South of the Plaza, and graduating from Southwest High School. After getting married, his first home was in Armour Hills.  Their family then moved just across State Line into Leawood, where he and his wife Karen continue to live as empty nesters.

In addition to having firsthand experience with both the Kansas and Missouri sides of the metropolitan area, Doug is a third generation Realtor whose grandfather built the Professional Building, a historic landmark in downtown Kansas City.  His father and partners developed Corporate Woods Office Park in Overland Park, and his mother was a residential real estate broker, who kept an active license until her death at the age of 81.  You could say that real estate runs in the family!
