New site to highlight math technologies for students, teachers
New for the 2010-11 school year, Tech Powered Math (TPM) brings students, parents, and teachers information on the latest mathematics technologies. TPM highlights include reviews of graphing calculators, mobile apps, and Web 2.0 math applications.
Given the expense and wide variety of calculator choices on the market today, Tech Powered Math’s calculator reviews are helpful guides for students and parents trying to decide how to invest in their math education. Currently, all of the most popular Texas Instruments calculators are reviewed, with other brands soon to be added.
Tech Powered Math features video lessons and tutorials on the Texas Instruments graphing calculators, TI-84 and TI-Nspire. With a huge number of features, these calculators can be both powerful and overwhelming. The tutorials provide students with a reference on everything from how to do basic calculations to updating the operating system on their calculators.
Graphing calculators are only one of the tools available to students of mathematics today. Tech Powered Math also features articles and videos highlighting a wide variety of resources, such as software, apps for the iPhone and Android operating system, even Twitter.
“Although there are incredibly powerful tools for students and teachers of mathematics, it can be difficult to find information about those tools”, said Lucas Allen, longtime math educator and webmaster of Tech Powered Math. “The goal of the site is to allow users to be informed consumers and users of technologies such as graphing calculators and software.”
