The Caribbean Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF) awards Paul Bogle Scholarship to six brilliant children in financial need who passed the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) to attend High School in Jamaica. Scholarships total $765,000 Jamaican dollars.

Sept. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Kingston, Jamaica:  Paul Bogle Scholarships are awarded to qualified and talented children who graduated from Primary Schools and passed their exams to attend High School but are in financial need, and could be in danger nonattendance due to lack of financial resources.  The Scholarship pays:  school fees, text books, school supplies, uniforms, shoes, transportation and lunch for the 2010-2011 school year.

The Caribbean Education Foundation scholarship recipients satisfied the Paul Bogle Scholarship strict requirements: high academics (at least a 3.0 grade point average); passed Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT); evidence of financial need; and solid production of four prescribed essays.  Scholarships are renewable each year of if the student meets the required criteria.

The Caribbean Education Foundation discusses the reasons why Paul Bogle Scholarships are critical in Jamaica.  CEF's CEO, Attorney Nikiki Bogle explains, “Public High Schools in Jamaica are ‘not free’ and due to the associated costs attending High School, too many 11-year-old children are unable to attend or appear infrequently at best.  CEF’s goal is to help to provide meaningful access to High School education for children in financial need, in order that youth may acquire essential tools to help themselves.”

The Caribbean Education Foundation maintains high standards for its scholarship recipients.  As is evidenced from the high caliber of students who are awarded Paul Bogle Scholarships, CEF Scholars are among the best and brightest in Jamaica.  In addition, they are attending some of the best High Schools in the country.

COYA CHRISTIE will attend her first choice, Wolmer’s High School for Girls.  Throughout her primary education, Coya has been a top scholar and earned the highest score at Duhaney Park Primary in the GSAT Exam.  She graduated at the top of her school and was Valedictorian of her shift.  Among the high sores on all 6 subjects on the GSAT Exam, Coya received 100% in Composition and 98% in Mathematics.  Coya’s dream is to become an Archaeologist.

Coya lives in Spanish Town, St. Catherine with her aunt/guardian and four children in the household. The financial circumstances are dire and even more so, because her guardian is currently suffering from breast cancer.  Her guardian had undergone a mastectomy and currently receiving chemotherapy treatments.  In addition to trying to find money to pay for expensive cancer treatments, Coya’s guardian has four additional young children she is trying to put through school.

TRAVIS ANDERSON will attend St. George’s College.  Travis is an all-around student who has done well academically, but was also the Captain of Alpha Primary's School Challenge Quiz Team and an active member of the Chess Club.  Among his many high marks on the GSAT Exam, Travis obtained 93% in Science and 92% in Composition.

Travis lives in Mathews Lane, Kingston with his grandmother, who is his guardian.  She has limited financial resources or income.  His father died in March 2009 from Lymphoma Cancer.  His mother is not able to provide consistent help with Travis’ school needs.

TREVISA BRYAN will attend the school of her dreams, Morant Bay High School.  Trevisa has been a top student at Morant Bay Primary since grade one.  She maintained an “A” Average throughout school years.  She received high marks on the GSAT Exam including 100% in Composition and 99% in Mathematics.  She was a member of 4-H Club and Debate Team.  Trevisa received the “Principal’s Trophy” for Most Outstanding Academic Student of the Graduating Class and Obtaining the Highest Average during GSAT Exam.

Trevisa resides with her mother and three additional children in Morant Bay, St. Thomas.  The four children include a brother and two cousins whose mother died two years ago.  Her mother has raised 5 children of her own and adopted 2 other children.  Currently, there are four children in the house her mother has to send to school, which is financially difficult as she only earns $15,000 JA ($177 U.S.) per month.

SARAH JONES will attend Immaculate Conception High School.  Sarah has consistently been an “A” Student in primary school.  She received high marks on the GSAT Exam including 100% in Mathematics and 95% in Language Arts.  In addition to high academics, she is a multi-talented and gifted musician as a player of various instruments:  piano, drums and the recorder.  She was a member of the Music Club, Dance Club, Choir and Netball Team.  Sarah’s career interest is to become an Archaeologist or an Author.

Sarah lives in Washington Gardens, Kingston with her father, mother and sibling.  Her mother is hearing impaired and unemployed.  Sarah’s father is the sole financial support for the family and works as a Forklift Driver.  He does not make enough money for  educational needs.

AMOY GILLESPIE will attend Ardenne High School.  Amoy has received top grades and obtained 94% in Language Arts and 93% in Mathematics on the GSAT.  At graduation, Amoy was granted Special Awards:  Integrated Studies; Highest GSAT Score for GSAT Language Arts at her school and Highest GSAT Average at Portsmouth Primary School.  Amoy’s goal in life is to become a Neurosurgeon.

Amoy lives in Waterford, St. Catherine with her parents and four siblings.  Her parents have a total of eight children.  Her mother is unemployed and father has worked on and off with insufficient income to support the family.  It has been financially difficult to supply all the children’s school needs.  There were times during school when Amoy did not receive all the books she needed to attend school and complete homework.

RAVORN CAMPBELL will attend Calabar High School.  Ravorn’s primary school is streamed where bright students are placed at the top and other students in descending streams.  Ravorn was placed in the fourth stream and not expected to pass his exam for a top school.  He proved everyone wrong by passing for Calabar High.  He obtained 96% in Mathematics and 90% in Science on the GSAT Exam.  Ravorn received many awards:  Most Outstanding Student in His Class, English Language, Science, Religious Education and Most Disciplined Student.

Ravorn lives in Riverton Meadows, Kingston with his mother and three siblings.  Since grade one, Ravorn had to attend school numerous times without lunch money.  Many days he had to walk to and from school, because his mother had no money for bus fare. His mother is unemployed and a single parent.
