Follow on Google News | Average parent spends over £1k on newborn’s nurseryResearch by the UK’s fastest growing baby product review website has revealed the real cost of a baby’s nursery, taking into account the average prices of standard nursery furniture and accessories.
By: Emma Kent The research was commissioned by www.BabyChild.org.uk and 1,726 new parents were polled. The respondents were asked to provide the cost of different aspects of their baby’s nursery; from the flooring and cot, to mobile and paint for the room. BabyChild.org.uk analysed the data provided, to work out the average cost of each piece of furniture, accessory and other items required for a nursery. The study found that the average costs for various items were as follows; Cotbed £129.50 Paint £31.42 Border £33.48 Carpet/Flooring £96.81 Wardrobe £216.72 Chest of drawers £153.29 Black out blind £30.66 Mobile £34.89 Feeding chair £189.60 Bedding £58.42 Moses basket £43.82 Baby monitors £49.61 Nightlight £16.85 TOTAL £1,085.07 According to the research, the average parents spend just over £1000 on basic items and furniture for their baby’s nursery. This average cost did not take into account toys or clothes, but BabyChild.org.uk asked further questions to find out how much, on average, is spent on these items also. More than two thirds, 68%, of the parents said the toys in their baby’s nursery totalled more than £500; whilst the majority, 57%, of the parents asked admitted to having clothes for their baby to the value of over £600. Jill Tovey, co-founder of BabyChild.org.uk, commented on the findings; “Having become a mum myself recently, I truly understand the full cost of a nursery now and, I must say, it definitely worked out more than I expected. As a parent, you expect to have to shell out a fair bit of cash on products and nursery furniture for your newborn, but it really is surprising to see just how much the total cost can be when you add it all up. “It’s hard for any new parent not to spoil their newborn and want to give them the very best in life, which is part of the reason we set up BabyChild.org.uk; LINK http://www.BabyChild.org.uk ENDS For more information please contact Emma Kent of 10 Yetis Public Relations Agency on emmak@10yetis.co.uk or 01452348211.
