Sept. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Boardriders and bodyboarders from Sweden, Holland and Germany will be among those battling it out on the artificial standing wave to win an all expenses paid trip to Singapore this autumn to compete in the World FlowRider Championships.

The introduction of flowriding to the UK took place earlier this year with the opening of Loop at Retallack. A number of Retallack’s most talented instructors will be taking part in the competition, joined by some of the UK’s top surfers including Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths - the winner of the first ever UK Pro Surfers Flowriding Championships which was held at the resort back in June.

For the European event at Retallack, reigning World Champion - South African Greg Lazarus – will be among those on the judging panel. Divisions for men’s stand-up, women’s stand-up and bodyboarding will all be held over the course of the day, with live DJs providing some added ‘flowside’ entertainment. The event is free to spectate and plenty of food and drink will be available at the recently completed Loop Bar & Restaurant which overlooks the action.

“This is a huge honour,” says Retallack Resort Director Jason Keyter. “The UK is new to flowriding so for us to be hosting such a prestigious event is fantastic. We’ve got some real talent here already so it will be interesting to see what tricks our continental rivals have got up their sleeves. Flowriding is a unique sport which is quickly gaining popularity and it has been interesting to see how some of this country’s top surfers have been able to quickly master it. It would be amazing to think that we might have a potential European and even a World Champion already in our midst.”

Should a UK rider take victory, they will be sent to the Wave House Sentosa in Singapore for the World Championships (October 29-31) to face competition from the USA, Chile, South Africa, and Singapore. Loop at Retallack is one of only 120 FlowRiders worldwide, and plans are already in the pipeline to build a second more challenging ‘barreling’ FlowRider in the near future.
