Follow on Google News | Local Civic Leader Honored With Non-profit FoundationClarissa Manuel Foundation to host their kick-off event in downtown Long Beach on September 16, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
By: Liza Desir Clarissa Manuel was a community activist in the Long Beach area. Manuel worked for 35 years with the Long Beach Community Improvement League, the Long Beach School District and the Health Department. She is a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is a Silver Life Member of the NAACP. And she was active with many other organizations in the Long Beach area including the Black Managers Association and the Long Beach/Mombasa Sister Cities organization. Manuel passed away June 20, 2009. The foundation was created in 2010 in her honor by friends and colleagues. Board members include Doris Topsy-Elvord, the city’s first African American Vice Mayor and Gwen Mathews, Assistant Superintendent, Long Beach Unified School District. The kick-off event will be held at King’s Fish House, 100 W Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be available.
