Aug. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- The eggs included in this recall were distributed to distribution centers, foodservice companies and food wholesalers in several states, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

The brand names included in this recall include Albertson, Boomsma's, Dutch Farms, Farm Fresh, Hillandale, Kemps, Lund, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Shoreland, Sunshine and Trafficanda.  Six, twelve and 18 egg cartons with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946 are affected by this recall.  Consumers should look for numbers arranged by plant number then Julian date, such as P-1946 223.

Investigations are ongoing; there have been confirmed illnesses related to the shell eggs.  Individuals have been confirmed to have salmonella enteriditis, which causes symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and occasional fever.  The eggs that were distributed in the above mentioned states were also distributed by the foodservice and wholesale companies in those states to other companies across the nation.

Consumers are asked to return the eggs they have purchased that are affected by this recall to the store where they were purchased.  The proper storage, handling and cooking of eggs helps in preventing food-borne illness.  Eggs should be fully cooked until the yolks and whites are firm, according to the Food and Drug Administration.  Raw and undercooked eggs place individuals at higher risk of becoming infected with bacteria such as salmonella.

Certain individuals are at an increased risk of developing serious complications from salmonella bacteria.  These include young children, the frail or elderly, and those with a weakened or compromised immune system.  If you suspect that you have become infected with salmonella after eating eggs or other foods that are possibly contaminated, seek medical attention.

You may be eligible for compensation related to your illness.  Seek the advice of an experienced New York food poisoning attorney (http://www.brownchiari.com/AreasOfPractice/FoodPoisoningL...) who can advise you of action you may take after becoming ill due to tainted foods.
