Aug. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- The Wanaea field is located 34km east of North Rankin, offshore, Western Australia. It lies in Carnarvon Basin in the North West Shelf about 130km off the coast. The water depth of the field is 80m. Cossack is another field in the same region which lies 7km from the Wanaea field. Woodside Energy Limited is the operator of the field which has the major equity stake of 33.33%.
The other equity partners include Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty. Ltd., Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd., BP Developments Australia Pty. Ltd. and BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty. Ltd.

The Wanaea field produces crude oil and natural gas. The field produces the crude oil of Brent Blend quality with 47th API and sulfur content of 0.03% (by weight).

Wanaea field started production in 1995 and has produced around 30.04 million barrels of crude oil and 37.17 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the last three years. The current production (2010) of the field is estimated to be approximately 3.05 million barrels of crude oil and 3.89 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

The production life of the Wanaea field is expected to be around 25-26 years with complete abandonment during 2020. The field is expected to generate $3.05 billion in revenue (undiscounted) during its remaining life (starting January 1, 2010) and is expected to yield an IRR of 17.54%.
