Aug. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the 60th Speaker of the House of Representatives, will be honored by the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum on Capitol Hill at its prestigious Alice Award Luncheon on Wednesday, September 22.  Each year, the Alice Award honors a woman who has broken barriers and set new precedents for women.  Speaker Pelosi is being recognized for her remarkable career in politics and for becoming the first female Speaker of the House.

The Alice Award is named after Alice Paul – suffragist, human rights activist and founder of the National Woman’s Party – who spent her life tirelessly working  for women’s equality.  Past honorees include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Katie Couric; Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and Mary Landrieu; the women pioneers of NPR – Cokie Roberts, Susan Stamberg, Nina Totenberg and Linda Wertheimer; Tipper Gore; Billie Jean King; Evelyn Lauder.

Speaker Pelosi is a most worthy recipient of the Alice Award and a strong and enthusiastic supporter of the Sewall-Belmont House.  We are very excited to celebrate her achievements and honor her with our Alice Award,” said Lucy Calautti and Peggy Cifrino, 2010 Alice Award Gala Chairmen.
