Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- (Albany, N.Y.) - New York City’s longest-running annual short film exhibition, Asbury Shorts, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a slight change from tradition. Their acclaimed touring program of award-winning international films known as “The Short Film Concert” is coming to Albany, and the showing will be unique in that it will also include the winners of the first-ever Upstate Independents Short Film Contest.

Just recently announced, the Upstate Independents Short Film Contest is open to short films that are six minutes or less in length from all genres, except documentary or graphic horror. Entries are still being accepted and more information can be found on the organization’s website (www.upstateindependents.com/uiasbury-shorts-festival). The deadline for submission is September 1 and organizers are looking forward to the results.

Heidi Philipsen, Public Relations Chair for the nonprofit organization, Upstate Independents, which is hosting the contest, was instrumental in bringing the established and new film ventures together.

“It’s been really amazing to see everything come into place,” says Heidi. “Asbury Shorts is a phenomenal operation, and there is just so much promise in the filmmaking currently taking place around the Capital Region and greater New England area through organizations like Upstate Independents – it only made sense to bring the two together.”

The winning films from the Upstate Independents Short Film Contest will be shown alongside Asbury Shorts’ “The Short Film Concert” at The Linda, 318 Central Avenue, on September 11 at 7:30 p.m. For information and reservations please visit www.thelinda.org
