Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Bayu-Undan field is located in the Timor Sea Joint Petroleum Development Area (JDPA) about 250 kilometers south of East Timor and 500 kilometers northwest of Darwin (offshore), Australia. Field covers an area of approximately 160 square kilometers with a water depth of 80 meters. Bayu Undan spans the production sharing contract areas 03-12 and 03-13. The field is at equal distances from the boundaries of Block 91-12(60%) and 91-13(40%) under Area-A of Australia / Indonesia Zone of Cooperation.

ConocoPhillips is the operator of the field with 57.20% equity stake. The other equity partners of the field are Santos, Inpex Corporation, ENI Australia, Tokyo Electric Power Co. Inc. and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.

Bayu-Undan field was discovered in 1995 by the group led by Phillips Petroleum Company with the drilling of Bayu-1 well. An another well Undan-1 drilled at a distance of around 10 kilometers by the group led by BHP Petroleum confirmed this discovery as a large accumulation. Discovery well Bayu-1 intersected a gas and condensate column of 155 meters and at a depth of 897 meters. The well tested 89.69 cubic feet of gas per day and 5.25 thousand barrels of condensate. Second well Bayu-2 tested around 34.50 million cubic feet of gas per day and two thousand barrels of condensate. Undan well tested 56.50 million cubic feet of gas per day and 3.90 thousand barrels per day of condensate.

Bayu-Undan produces condensate, LPG and LNG. The crude is of 55.90 degrees API and with 0.007% of sulphur quality. The field produced about 3,903,000 barrels of condensate and LPG and about 179,655.31 million cubic feet of LNG in 2009. The operators of the field are planning carry out new drilling programs in 2010.

The field life of Bayu-Undan is expected to be around 25 years with complete expected abandonment during 2029-2030. The field is expected to generate $64.23 billion in revenue (undiscounted) during 2010-2029 and is expected to yield an IRR of around 10.33%.
