Aug. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Mary e. Hoy and Phil Dynan, open two new exhibitions at the Red Bluff Art Gallery on Friday, September 3, from 5-8 PM. Both exhibits feature bold and colorful paintings intended to evoke viewer enjoyment. The Redding band, The Magic Bus, will play at the Opening Reception.

Hoy’s exhibit, in the Main Hall of the gallery, is entitled “Get Happy”. Her show consists of over 30 pieces ranging from large acrylic paintings to small tabletop collages.

“All of the works follow a general theme of appreciation and joy.” explains Hoy; "Most of my paintings are meditations in spiritual enlightenment. I have poured good energy into them and when someone looks at them, they feel that innate sense of well being. Thus the term Get Happy. You can't look at these and be sad."

Dynan’s exhibit in the Window Gallery is entitled “The New Plein Air”. “Plein Air” painting refers to work done outside, usually on the location of the subject. Dynan’s work is highly simplified and wildly colorful.

“Mr. Dynan is a color master. He joyously paints the Earth “a la Disney.” With colors that are perhaps as symbolic as they are beautiful, he serves up a delicious nature. And that can do no less than please the child in all of us. Phil Dynan’s work has the capacity to make us happy!” says Lorena Boswer (former North Valley Art League member), in an independent review of Dynan’s work.

“I reject the notion that “technical mastery” and “photo accuracy” are the top priorities in plein air painting. Instead, I am going back to the original intent of people like Van Gogh and Cezanne, and their impressionist approach to outdoor painting. I want the “sense” of the place or person to shine brightly,” Dynan explains.

Dynan’s plein air painting of Tehama’s Shady Rest Church seems to confirm his intentions. The building in this painting bulges “with song, prayer, hope and faith” according to the artist.

Both Dynan and Hoy are members of the artist-owned cooperative, the Red Bluff Art Gallery, 601 Walnut Street.

An artists’ reception for the new exhibits will be held at the gallery on Friday, September 3rd, from 5-8 PM. the popular Redding band, The Magic Bus, will provide Music. Dress is casual and everyone is welcome. More information at www.RedBluffArtGallery.com
