Water Conservation Provides Money for Struggling Communities.

Communities have finally turned to water conservation, but not because they are turning "green" but because they are in the "red".

Aug. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Goodyear, AZ August 26, 2010 - The loss of revenues, because of a poor job market, a depressed real estate market, and an excessively high foreclosure rate, has caused many Community Homeowner Associations to struggle financially.

So many communities are looking for ways to keep afloat and conserve limited resources.  It is literally time to sink or swim.

The largest budget item that can be cut and provide a positive environmental impact is water.  Water is usually the second largest budgeted item for a community.  And water is the biggest waster of community dollars.

Sarival-Paseo, a community in Goodyear, AZ was paying over $120,000 a year for water.  It was difficult for them to pay their vendors because revenues had fallen dramatically.  According to their Vice President, Jim Evans, in January 2010 they conducted an in-depth irrigation survey, and implemented a comprehensive water conservation plan.

Because of Water Conservation, from February to July 2010 they have saved $40,757.27.  Mr. Evans said they were able to use the money to paint their culvert guardrails; paint their playground pavilions; produce and mail 1,500 CDs to homeowners, and hire a landscaper to clean up 15 properties that were in foreclosure.

Jim Kauth is the Water Conservation Manager for Abracadabra Landscape Corp. and the inventor of the Aqua Trac Water Conservation System that provided those savings for Sarival Paseo and other communities in the Valley.  He uses satellite imaging and aerial photos to determine a community’s actual water requirements.  Mr. Kauth, says, knowing how much water the landscape needs, is the basis of a good water conservation plan.
