The Bluebag Revolution Begins: A Better Way to Access IKEA for the Gulf Coast

Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Bluebag LLC, an up and coming New Orleans company has officially gone from under the radar into the eye of the public.  The company currently offers design, delivery, and installation services for IKEA products in southern Louisiana.  The company started gaining customers through word of mouth and currently mainly serves the New Orleans and Baton Rouge markets, but is steadily expanding into Lafayette.

Bluebag celebrated the launch of the company on August 19 by hosting a revolutionary themed party at Purple Monkey Design studios on Chartres St. in the area of New Orleans known as the Bywater.  The party guest list included many individuals from the design community, as well as small business owners, local entrepreneurs, and friends and family of the employees. IKEA, who is iconically Swedish, also had a big influence over the outcome of the party. Music for the party was provided by Zing!Zing!, a local DJ, who mixed Swedish artists such as ABBA with current and classic hits. Swedish inspired cocktails and Swedish Fish® were available for guests, as well as a 30 foot runway featuring five different themed set ups such as “Eat” and “Play” to showcase the contemporary and simple designs of affordable IKEA furniture.  Guests were also invited to snap instant photos in the V.I.P. area, which also included IKEA furniture where the photos were then used to raffle off runway items.

“We’ve been operating for about 5 months now, and the whole time we’ve been in a soft-launch phase.  We’ve been keeping a really low profile and have avoided too much publicity or advertising to control our growth.  It’s been really exciting to be with the company from the beginning and see the results of all of our hard work.  We’ve been gearing up for some major marketing initiatives all summer, and this launch party is the first of several fun projects we have devised,” said Heather Wied, the company’s Marketing Director.

The idea for Bluebag was conceived on our founder's many trips to IKEA Houston from New Orleans while remodeling his personal home. Having lived in places like Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, New York, Boston and Austin, where IKEA is a part of daily life, he was very familiar with the concept behind the furniture retailer and wanted to bring the ideals on which it stands to New Orleans and the Gulf Region in a more convenient and affordable way than driving individually roundtrip 700 miles to Houston. The thought was to help people not only access IKEA products on a more frequent and "on demand" fashion but also to channel his professional knowledge to them by providing affordable and professional Design and Consulting, and Assembly and Installation services.
