Aug. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- The 2nd annual Redhook California Duathlon, sponsored by Redhook Ale, Coates Cyclery, Kona Bikes, Giant Bikes and Mt Baldy Ski Area combines a 7 mile biking and 3 mile running event into one race.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re a first-time duathlete or a hard-core competitor, every outdoor enthusiast will enjoy this year’s Redhook California Duathlon,” states Ole Ellingson, Duathlon coordinator.

“The course sets up for a good test of endurance and perseverance. This is a high altitude challenge as competitors will be biking and running at elevations between 6,000 and 8,000 feet.”

Last year members of Pomona’s Coates Cyclery claimed first and second place with Dave Robertson, 22 from Fontana, crossed the finish line in 1:15:16.  Dave Ruby, a 50 year old who has competed in 15 Ironman races in 7 countries, crossed the finished line 1 second behind Coates team mate Robertson.

The course starts with a 7 Mile Bike ride from Mt. Baldy Ski Lift parking lot. A fast 3/4 mile ride on pavement down past beautiful San Antonio Falls then turns up on dirt fire road to the Top of the Notch at an elevation of 7,800 feet.

The race continues up past Desert View around two reservoirs back to the transition area at the Notch.

The 3 mile Run takes challengers up Turkey Shoot to fire road up above the number 4 chairlift at 8,700 feet. Run back down the fire road across Roller Coaster, continuing down fire road and up around Snowball Point to the finish line in front of the Notch.

“The Awards Party including trophy presentation and raffle prizes will be conducted at the Notch,” concludes Ellingson.

Entry fee for the Redhook California Duathlon is $34 in advance or $39 on race day which includes Event t-shirt. Registration starts at 6:30 AM and closes at 8:30 AM.

Each competitor will receive 4 FREE scenic ride lift tickets so that friends and families can watch the race from the vantage point at the Top of the Notch Restaurant.

Ole Ellingson, race coordinator concluded “We were very happy with the response and turnout from last year’s event and the number of registrations so far is very promising.”
