Aug. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- PHOENIX – August 25, 2010 – Vantage Mobility International (VMI), a leader in the manufacture and distribution of wheelchair accessible full-size and minivan conversions, will co-sponsor the Phoenix broadcast of the 45th Annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon. The national show will air from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. PST on Sunday, Sept. 5, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST on Monday, Sept. 6, from Las Vegas’ South Point Hotel and Casino.  The first Jerry Lewis Telethon was created in June 1955 at Carnegie Hall in New York City to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.

VMI is entering its 12th year of sponsorship for the Phoenix-area broadcast of the MDA Telethon.  The first eight years, VMI sponsored the last hour of the local coverage for the telethon and has since increased its donation to cover the cost of the Phoenix tote board that displays the donations generated during the telethon.  Phoenix’s independent station, Channel 3, will broadcast the show with the help of local TV personalities Carey Pena, Tara Hitchcock, Brittney Shipp, April Warnecke, Gina Maravilla and Kaley O’Kelly.

“MDA is honored to have VMI as a long-standing sponsor,” said Sarah Levin, executive director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “VMI’s dedication to our mission of hope and help and to our local families has been evident over the past 12 years.”

The Labor Day weekend telethon will air on local television stations across the country with thousands tuning in to watch special guests and celebrities volunteering their time.  Tom Bergeron of “Dancing with the Stars” will co-host the national telethon alongside Jerry Lewis.

“VMI has been a major supporter of MDA over the years by sponsoring numerous activities such as raffles, Texas Hold’em tournaments, carnivals, auctions, happy hours, car washes and even an optional $10 MDA donation on our dealer contracts,” said Doug Eaton, president of VMI.  “Fighting this disease is so important for VMI that we not only increased our financial efforts, but also our participation in the MDA Telethon, Stride and Ride Walk, Taste of the Town and Muscle Team events.”

VMI has sponsored Taste of the Town for two years, MDA’s gourmet food and wine tasting fundraising event that features the Valley’s finest restaurants, wine and spirits, live music and a silent auction.  For the past three years, VMI has also been the “stage sponsor” for the Stride and Ride Walk.

“The most significant part of the MDA and VMI relationship is the hope they bring to our families,” added Levin.  “Together, we are making a difference for those living with neuromuscular diseases.”

MDA is currently taking donations for its fight against muscular dystrophy and related diseases.  For more information on how to donate, please visit www.mda.org.
