Pegboard lateral positioning system from Innovative Medical Products accommodates obese patients

Aug. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- PLAINVILLE, Conn. –Innovative Medical Products, a global leader in patient positioning, has made orthopedic surgery on obese patients easier than ever with its patented MorphBoard® modular pegboard positioning system.

Along with its two modular end boards, the MorphBoard® features a lightweight center board that can be easily adjusted to accommodate an obese patient’s large abdomen. The MorphBoard®’s 20” wide, 30” long, center board, when rotated 90 degrees and combined with the two end boards, “morphs” into a 30” wide section large enough to support most obese patients.

The MorphBoard® (http://www.innovativemedical.com/products/morph.html) enables OR personnel to simply roll patients onto their sides for easy stabilization using the various peg-hole locations. This eliminates any strenuous lifting of the patient into an exact location as with other positioning systems.

In addition to two (each) standard sized 8” and 12” pegs, the lateral positioning system includes two 14” pegs designed especially by IMP for the obese patient. All the IMP pegs are offered in either aluminum or composite material; the latter is radiolucent for intraoperative X-rays.  The system also comes with two clamping plates to hold the pegboard component boards in place and two EZ GRIP™ side rail clamps.

An IMP slow recovery foam pad or malleable gel pad (or a combination of both) is placed over the plastic pegboard for patient protection. Either IMP pad can be easily rolled up to conform to the patient’s body leaving access to the peg holes closest to the patient where the pegs can be inserted for maximum stabilization.

Because of its modularity, a modified version of the standard MorphBoard® system is available for surgeries involving the non-obese patient. The package comes with the center board and one end board, plus clamps and pegs. This IMP offering addresses the needs of those looking for a more economical pegboard solution.
