Force 911 Starts Vehicle Conversions Under ARRA-Funded Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program
Force 911 began the initial vehicle conversions for Cobb County and Carroll County, Georgia, under the ARRA-funded Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program.
Force 911 will complete over 200 vehicle conversions for law enforcement fleets participating in the grant. In addition to Carroll and Cobb County, Force 911 will convert vehicles for Muscogee County and Barrow County in Georgia, as well as vehicles in the city of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
Force 911 installed each vehicle with the EPA-certified Prins Vapor Sequential Injection (VSI) System and a DOT-approved autogas fuel tank. The bi-fuel system allows vehicles to operate on traditional gasoline or propane autogas. Municipalities that convert vehicles to propane autogas can implement a propane fueling station at their location.
The Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The focus is to increase the amount of propane autogas vehicles in the United States, as well as developing a network of refueling stations. The grant was awarded to the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy to convert approximately 1,200 gasoline-powered vehicles to propane autogas. Virginia Clean Cities and James Madison University are project managers for the Southeast Autogas Development Program. Force 911 is a member of Alliance AutoGas, a national clean vehicle coalition that is coordinating the vehicle conversions with Virginia Clean Cities.
Wayne Abbs, President of Force 911, stated "Our first two weeks of vehicle conversions under the ARRA grant have gone very smoothly. Officers who are driving their newly converted vehicles are pleased with the performance. As a law enforcement vehicle outfitter, we understand that officers need safety and performance from their fleet. Hybrid propane fuel conversions are a safe alternative to traditional gasoline vehicles and don't sacrifice performance. Plus they have the added benefit of using a domestic fuel source."
Propane autogas is an alternative fuel that produces significantly lower emissions than gasoline or diesel vehicles which reduces greenhouse gas emissions. 90% of propane is produced in the United States, creating less dependence on foreign oil.
